AREA TRAILS IN DAWSON CREEK

Bear Mountain

Access - Located 10 km south of the city of Dawson Creek. Look for signage at the turn off to the by-pass road (dangerous goods route), or contact the Dawson Creek Forest District.

Note: Hikers can walk the self-guided trails or follow the 12 kms of trail used by cross-country skiers in the winter. A variety of plant and animal species exist here and rest shelters are available throughout the forest.


Kinuseo Falls / Monkman Pass

Access - Follow the Hart Highway (Hwy 97) West of Dawson Creek for approximately 22 km. Turn south on the Heritage Highway to Tumbler Ridge. Follow the Heritage Highway past Tumbler Ridge. You will come to a junction with the option of turning right (north to Chetwynd) or turning left, South. Turn left and follow the highway for approximately 10 km to the Quintette Coal Mine exit. You will begin to see Kinuseo Falls Provincial Park signs near the Quintette Mine turnoff. After turning right, follow the road past the the mine and across the Murray River. Just after crossing the Murray River take the left fork (follow signs) to Kinuseo Falls. This is the Murray River Forest Service Road. Tourists should be advised to watch for industrial traffic. The falls are approximately 35 km from this point.

Note: Driving time is about 2 1/2 hours from Dawson Creek. The falls are higher than Niagara and are surrounded by beautiful scenery; a must see!
