The
fur trading post of 1805 has evolved into a
charming, beautifully landscaped community
supported by grain farming, ranches, game
farms, forestry and hydro dams.
Visitors will follow the original portage trail
that bypassed the un-navigable rapids of the Peace
Canyon as they drive to the W.A.C. Bennett Dam.
The Dam is only twenty minutes from Hudson's Hope
and offers Theatre Presentations featuring the
building of the dam, how electricity is made and
local history.
Centrally located Beattie Park invites
travellers into Hudson's Hope's natural log
Information Centre. Pause here and enjoy the
picnic area, playground, and gazebo.
Picnicking areas and overnight camping are
conveniently located at King Gething, Alwin
Holland, Dinosaur Lake and Cameron Lake
campgrounds. These scenic spots are
maintained by the District of Hudson's Hope
and include play areas, wood, water hand
pumps and privies. King Gething Campground
offers a cooking shelter, sani-station,
washrooms and coin operated showers. Alwin
Holland Campground is located minutes west
from the townsite. It's treed sites overlook
the famous "tea-pot islands" first
mentioned in Alexander Mackenzie's journals
of 1793. Dudley's cabin adjoins this
campground. "Dudley" Shaw was one
of the early pioneers in the Hudson's Hope
area. His cabin later became home to the
well known author, Bradford Angiers.
The municipality offers everything from camping
to tents and recreational vehicles for $12.00
per night at the following campgrounds: Cameron
and Dinosaur Lake, and Alwin Holland and King
Gething Park. Months of operation are from mid-May
to early September.

YOU KNOW?... |

>
In
1793, Alexander Mackenzie noted
in his diary
that
smoldering coal seams, located
downstream
from the subsequently
constructed
W.A.C.
Bennett Dam, emitted heat that
could
burn one's
shoe. These smoking vents can
still
be observed
over 200 years later.
