Explore Wilderness in our Backyard
This modern community is the heart of the
Northeast Coal Development and home to the
world's largest open pit coal mine.

The magnitude of the mining operation is awe-inspiring and the view from the "pits" are absolutely breathtaking.

Dino Trackway tours are available through the Visitor Info Booth.

Enjoy the many hiking and cross-country ski trails around the town. Or try our nine hole par 36 golf course that boasts scenic and challenging play for novice and experienced golfers alike, complete with a driving range and club house.

The Ridge Rivers Snowmobile Club has developed a vast network of easily accessible trails that are unequaled in the Northeast. Hill climbing, playing in the bowls, or easy family riding provides a challenge for both the novice and the expert. There is a snowmobile trail access right to the town centre so the winter sportsman can take advantage of the 51 unit motel, the many restaurants and other town amenities.

Tumbler Ridge has a fully serviced RV Park just minutes from the town centre, and the Lions Club operates a fully developed campsite just a few kilometers away. Rustic campsites are available at Monkman and Gwillim Provincial Parks and at nearby Moose Lake
.

MONKMAN P
ARK

Where do you find a 32,000 hectare wilderness park containing abundant wildlife, wildflower meadows, mountain glaciers, and the 60 metre high Kinuseo Falls? In the Hart Range of the Central Rockies exists a wilderness jewel of the northland: Monkman Provincial Park.

The adventure of discovering Monkman Provincial Park takes you south from Tumbler Ridge down the west side of the Murray River. Use caution traveling this 45 km dirt road frequented by large trucks. Set up camp in the 42 unit Kinuseo Falls Campground with RV pull-throughs, tent sites, a picnic shelter and special needs facilities. From the campground, you can stroll along a trail to the viewing platform of spectacular Kinuseo Falls.

For those visitors looking for a wilderness adventure, a trail from the campground directs you up into the heart of Monkman Park where primitive campsites exist at the Murray River Crossing and at the south end of Monkman Lake.

The trek offers a panorama of natural treats from the splendor of alpine sunsets to the tumbling wonders of the Monkman Step Falls. The serenity of Monkman is sure to bring you peace of mind. Monkman Park supports a variety of wildlife including mountain goats, Stone's Sheep, caribou, elk, mule deer, moose, grizzly and black bear. So bring your camera!

During your visit to Monkman Park, be prepared for changes in weather and watch for wildlife... the alpine meadows are home to the grizzly bear.
